Career vs Stay at Home
We have all had to deal with people's unsolicited opinions as parents. That one mom who either shames you for having a career or blames you for not contributing financially to the family. Sometimes we put way more weight on people's opinions than we should. It's that age old debate. Are working moms or stay at home moms better?
Neither.
I remember people joking that when you have kids all your dreams die. I don't think that is the case. I think it's where dreams can thrive. The main inspiration for me to kick start my career was my son. I wanted him to believe he could do anything he set his mind to. I wanted to be inspiring to him. So many people have tried to guilt me into not working towards my dreams. I almost gave up so many times purely out of guilt. I am so glad I never gave in. If working makes you happy then keep working. You don't have to lose yourself when you become a parent. You are allowed to choose both.
The same thing goes for stay at home parents. If you have the financial support and resources to stay home and it is what YOU want then do it. I could personally never do it. I can't imagine working for no pay and very little praise. I am in awe of everything stay at home parents do. Your job is extremely difficult.
Can we as parents lift each other up? Our jobs are hard enough as it is without the constant criticism we get. Maybe Sarah's dream was to be a mom since she was a little girl. That's a valid dream. Maybe Brittany wants a career and to be the top in her field. That's a valid dream to have while having a family. There will always be someone at some point in your life telling you that you aren't doing enough. Well, I'm here to tell you that I see you and I hear you. You are doing a great job and you deserve to feel fulfilled in whatever you do with your life.
