Ice Cream/Custer’s Cones

Ice cream is going to be the dominant dessert during June Dairy Month. I mean, it’s the first thing that comes to my mind in the dairy category. So, here’s another place to get ice cream in the Chippewa Valley, at a location only open during the warm weather months: Custer’s Cones in Chippewa Falls.

Outside Custer’s Cones.

As you can see in the photo, it’s a small place; you’ll find it next to Jacobson’s, facing Stilson Road at the County Highway J intersection. I actually first saw it driving by in winter, and figured it would be a bit before the season was right to open back up. Well, it’s summer, so I was due to go back.

Inside, they have cones, shakes, malts, floats, and more, using Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream (also, I noted them playing one of our radio stations, I-94!). I decided to go for a “Single” (2 scoops) in a waffle cone of the Caramel Chaos:

Sooooo much caramel.

It’s just how you want your waffle cone to be done: the ice cream was ideally situated, giving me sufficient time to consume enough to prevent drippage; the cone was firm and prevented similar drops at the bottom. I briskly made my way through the cone on the drive home.

It’s a little ice cream…well, not really a stand, since you walk in, but it feels “ice cream.” Plus, if you’re closer to Chetek, go to the Custer’s located there. It’s the time of year to cash in your dues on some delicious dairy.
