Apple Pie Caramel Apple/Chippewa Candy Shop

Hey, “Dessert Valley Wisconsin” is back after a Minnesota State Fair-induced sabbatical (bringing home lots of Sweet Martha’s Cookies and hard-to-find candy bars from the candy exhibit will occupy your sweet cravings for a while). So, I return with a trip to one of the best candy aesthetics in the area: Chippewa Candy Shop. It is exactly how you would expect such a locale to look: so many bins and containers of all the colors of candies you can imagine. And yet I decided to go seasonal with my blog choice, based on a sign on the front door upon entry: a caramel apple.

The Apple Pie caramel apple.

As of the writing of this entry, a whole lot of caramel apple varieties can be available, depending on when you come by the store. The day I was there, two remained, but one seemed most-appropriate for late-September: the Apple Pie caramel apple.

For one, this is a massive apple. You are getting a dessert along with the slogan “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” The apple pie section includes what sure seems like sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, but all in a thin layer on the outside. Right below, of course, is the caramel, and then the apple itself. Really, it’s a caramel apple pie on a stick (so, sort of Minnesota State Fair-esque). And, so perfect for this time of year.

I would recommend a visit soon to take advantage of these variations on caramel apples. Oh, and you will end up buying more than just that (my wife had recently developed a craving for s’mores, and Chippewa Candy Shop just so happened to have s’mores bars, so…yes, they were purchased and enjoyed). It’s candy heaven: autumn, winter, spring, or summer.
