Summit Blue Releases Self-Titled Debut Album

An Eau Claire band is reaching new heights. Summit Blue is a 5-piece band formed in Eau Claire out of the University jazz scene, and they have some exciting news: they’re releasing a debut album. The album is self-titled, and there will be a listening party to celebrate.

“It’s just kind of a fusion of R&B and jazz,” says Aidan Buck, who plays trumpet. The band name is inspired by the street name of a house they rehearsed in, on Summit Avenue. “Anyone can listen to it and enjoy it,” Aidan says. The band is made up of Hannah Harder on saxophone, Aidan Buck on trumpet, Riley Johnson on drums, Patrick Lubben on bass, and Zach Luginbill on keyboard.

Aidan also created the cover art, which depicts mountains (see: summit) and is described as “moody.” The conception of the record was anything but, though – the band had a blast recording the 8-track instrumental album. It’s recorded in a home studio, which sets a mood for the album, and really captures the function of the album: to document. “We just want to document where we’re at right now,” Aidan says.

Some of Aidan’s favorite tracks include the first track, “Shifting,” one of his own compositions. “I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.” Almost all of the bandmates brought original compositions to the album. “The fan favorite is Hannah’s tune, Green Gables, it’s just very soul R&B and it’s so fun to play,” he says.

You can join Summit Blue for their listening party and performance at SHIFT Cyclery and Coffee Bar on Wednesday, October 18th at 6:30pm. SHIFT is offering $1 off drinks during the party. You can find Summit Blue on most music streaming services, and on Instagram as @_summitblue.
