Ginger Cookie/Menomonie Market Food Co-op

You’ve probably heard about the move of Menomonie Market Food Co-op Eau Claire location from it’s spot on the corner of Farwell & Washington to the open block on Barstow north of the river that had been awaiting development. I stopped down there not long after the opening. For one, I had to check out the building. For two, I needed to check out the dessert offerings. I ended up with a scrumptious gingerific cookie.

Glistening with sugar.

The Menomonie Market Food Co-op spot provides room for an in-house deli, and the baked goods area is — like a lot in the store — expanded. As I first looked over the offerings, I saw something that I do not see too often: a ginger cookie. Think a molasses cookie, but with the stand-out flavor of ginger. Any fans of ginger — I am one of them — will catch the organic spice in just the right amounts, gathering notice with more bites. This is a thick, soft cookie, made with all-natural/organic ingredients, and even whole wheat flour.

Not only did I enjoy the ginger cookie, but so did my toddler daughter. If you’ve have kids, you know kids that age are, well, picky eaters. This passed the test; I am kind of reassured that something dessert-ish yet natural was the sort of thing she enjoys.

There is plenty more for you to enjoy at the new Eau Claire locale of Menomonie Market Food Co-op. Go the back corner and see what they have, and take home a little extra — especially if you have a little one to feed.
