Gazpacho/La Michoacana Express

On a recent day, the family members of one of my co-workers here at the Mid-West Family E.C. stations stopped by, and I gave them a tour to see our radio locale for the first time. They said they were gonna check out La Michoacana Express on London Road, a place I was planning to see soon, as well. Apparently they were impressed-enough with my tour guide abilities, that they bought me of the items — and, true to form, it was the thing that, apparently, is one of the most-popular items on the menu: the Gazpacho.

The gazpacho.

La Michoacana Express opened over the summer of 2023, and has been getting mega-raves from pretty much everyone who has gone there. You can get a lot of dessert items, plus drinks and such. What was picked for me — the gazpacho — is a combo of flavors I had yet to experience. It’s essentially a cup full of fruit with their house juice, lime, salt, and tajin seasoning, plus a little serrano chili. Stuck down in the middle is a tamarind stick; once you get the coating off, it become a straw, to drink out the tangy-yet-sweet juice. Get a little further down, then open up the top lid to spoon-out the fruit, all while biting off the tamarind candy. It’s fruity and spicy and juicy and all sorts of yummy. And, way colorful.

To be more specific, my understanding is that the gazpacho is most popular at with folks stopping by La Michoacana Express whose origins are in Mexico, so if you’re going for hard-core authenticity, this is your choice. Of course, there are sooooo many other sweets to try, and I’ll have to go back for the ice cream. I’m glad that family member was channeling my thoughts on a dessert to try. New experiences are always fascinating.
