Coffee Cake/Cabin Coffee

Guest blog time!

For this edition of Dessert Valley, Wisconsin, I decided to lead with a few words from my fellow on-air personality, Dan Kasper, who you may know from his morning show on Sports Talk 105.1/790 AM. He also endorses Cabin Coffee in Altoona, and regularly has their local franchise owner — Joe Gribowski — as a guest on The Man Cave Podcast. Before I tell you about their scrumptious coffee cafe, Dan will tell you what he likes about Cabin Coffee:

“So being the sports guy, the first thing that jumped out to me about Cabin Coffee is their owner, Joe Gribowski, who is a former Badger offensive lineman that played under legendary coach Barry Alvarez. Getting to know Joe for the past year and hearing his stories has been fantastic, insightful, and entertaining.

But when it comes to Cabin Coffee itself, there’s two things that separate them from the rest. The people and quality.

First, the people. The entire staff there. I don’t think I’ve ever walked in or gone through the drive through where the entire team there hasn’t had a smile or wasn’t in a good mood. The service is always top notch.

And the quality. The coffee is locally roasted and brewed. As Joe likes to say, “it doesn’t taste like brown flavored water.” And its not just the coffee, it’s their menu of breakfast, lunch, and bakery items. My favorites are the chicken salad and whatever I can put their southwest sauce on!”

Now, for the dessert. I recently stopped by to get something to eat, and figured this was as good a time as any to get something sweet for the blog. A place like Cabin Coffee? Well, that means I should do coffee cake:

The cinnamon is smiling.

This was, naturally, a good coffee cake. The cake portion was moist, with a channel of gooey cinnamon horizontally splitting the middle. The crumble topping was crunchy, a pleasant contrast to the rest of the thick slice of cake. And, of course, I had coffee with it (side note: if you order to go, note the stopper sticker they put on the lid of their beverages).

The crumble terrain.

A good place to get coffee — and coffee cake — with a good guy overseeing the location. That’s Cabin Coffee in Altoona.
