Staycation Ideas for the Broke Parent
I can't believe we only have one month of summer left! I feel like I haven't done enough this summer so now I'm scrambling to make the most of it. Maybe you just didn't have it in your budget this year to take a summer vacation. Here's some awesome staycation ideas for the broke parent.
Go Camping
There's nothing like "getting away" and spending some time in nature. Camping is usually pretty cheap and allows you to get away without having to go far. Pack up some campfire food, grab your hiking shoes and head out for the weekend with the family. My favorite place to camp is Willow River State Park in Hudson.
Stay at a Local Hotel
Stay at Metropolis Resort with the kids. There's a water park, arcade and trampoline park to entertain the kids and you can still feel like you're getting away.
Take a Day Trip to an Amusement Park
Take a day trip to Valley Fair with the kids. It may not be as cool as Disney World but the kids will still have a blast and it won't break the bank like traveling somewhere, paying for hotels, gas and food. Pack your own lunch and eat in the car before entering the park for a day for $39.99/ticket.
Plan a Beach Day
Pack up a picnic basket and head to the beach for the day. It's not summer without a full day splashing around in the day. Plus, the kids will be exhausted and get a good nights rest when they get home.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
