Strawberry Cream Cheese Croissant/The Blind Munchies
I often like to arrange certain foods around major sporting events. For example, the first time the New England Patriots played the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, I did about the closest easy thing for a western Wisconsinite to do: ordered a Philly cheese steak sub with clam chowder. A little stereotypical, but the vibe was there.
With this year’s summer Olympics in Paris, I knew I had to have a croissant at some point. Somehow, the Olympic fortnight came and went without me actually finding one, and I forgot about my French objective. Meanwhile, I did have an objective of going to Menomonie to try the baked goods at The Blind Munchies. I asked what was most-recommended, and while there were many great choices, the best just happened to be…a croissant. One of the strawberry cream cheese variety:
The Blind Munchies has two locations (the other is in River Falls); not only do they serve coffee and food, but they also use their sales to support humanitarian projects across the globe. The Menomonie location is in the lower level of a church; walking down the stairs, you feel like you’re entering a classic old school church basement, and then suddenly you’re in a classic coffee house. The baked goods (I also got a brownie for my wife and a chocolate chip cookie for my daughter) are towards the left.
My strawberry cream cheese croissant was of the classic flavor: buttery layers of dough, a rich inner layer of strawberry cream cheese. It’s a great item to have for breakfast, which is what I did: I held off on having mine on the afternoon when I purchased it until a couple morning later when I could enjoy it, and I did. Also, these are sizable items; I was first drawn to The Blind Munchies by a friend who recently posted a photo on Facebook of their large cookie.
Pay The Blind Munchies a visit, get some coffee if that’s your thing, and pick out one of the items in the case like I did. You’ll make your tummy feel good, and your soul feel good, all in one sitting.
