How to Stay Healthy This Winter
Winter time is on it's way. The kids are in school. It's getting colder. That means sick season is coming too. Here are my top tips to keeping your immune system fully functioning this winter season.
Diet
One of the best ways to boost your immune system is through your diet. Eat healthy, whole foods. Remember the phrase, "you are what you eat?" Well that definitely applies here. Here are some simple immune boosting foods.
- yogurt
- Oats
- Chicken soup (see my previous blog posts for my homemade broth recipe)
- Tumeric
- Sweet Potatoes
- Ginger
- Kale
- Bell Peppers
- Broccoli
- Eggs
- Mushrooms
This is just to name a few. I could go on and on. Just think healthy and you'll be ok.
Tea
Our household is a tea house. We drink herbal tea every night before bed. My favorite immune boosting teas you can get right here in Eau Claire at my shop Black Kettle Tea are Immunity Potion and The Cure. Immunity Potion is great to boost the immune system and The Cure helps get you through any cold.
Sleep
Getting enough sleep is so important. When you sleep your body released cytokines, which are proteins that help regulate your immune system. Your body also produced T-cells in your sleep which are white blood cells that help fight off infection.
Stay Hydrated
Water is important because our blood and lymph, which have immune cells in them, need water in order to circulate throughout our bodies.
Wash Your Hands
Teach your kids about proper hand washing. They pick up tons of germs throughout the day. Regular hand washing ensures we aren't carrying the germs around with us.
Here's to a healthy and happy winter
Cheers!
