Monitoring Your Kids Music

Before I even start this post I just want to clarify that I am in no way judging anyone, but as I scroll through Tik Tok and Instagram I see so many parents being outraged by the music scene. "I brought my daughter to a Sabrina Carpenter concert and it was so inappropriate! She should be ashamed of herself." Let me just remind you that Sabrina Carpenter is a full grown woman and she writes music for adults. I don't know if they weren't aware of what kind of music she writes before they bought tickets but it definitely isn't targeted towards kids.

Let me again remind you. I'm not judging. My son's favorite song is "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. We just need to stop blaming artists for making art and start paying more attention to what our children are consuming. There are so many options for your kids to listen to hit songs without the stuff you don't want them to hear.

Remember Kidz Bop? That's still a thing. Artists also put out radio edits a lot of the time. If you don't want them hearing certain things maybe don't play "WAP" when your kids are in the car. Make a kid friendly playlist for car rides.

I am just really passionate about artists being able to speak their truth with no filters. It's not up to them to make age appropriate media if they aren't marketing themselves to children. It is up to the parents to monitor what they don't want their children listening to.

Cheers to the music scene,

<3 Bri
