Let Kids Design Their Own Bedroom

I know we tend to get caught up in apps like Pinterest when we're trying to design our homes. We want the perfect aesthetic. We want our kids rooms to be cute. I had to let that go after a while. I have a ten, almost 11 year old, and he definitely has his own personality and preferences when it comes to his bedroom.

Your kids are going to grow out of the phase where you get to control everything, and that's ok. Let them take control over some things. Starting with their bedroom. Let them pick out their decor (even if it's ugly). Let it look like a rainbow threw up in there. Who cares?! It's their space.

I'm going to take it one step further and say let them dress themselves. Does it drive me absolutely nuts that Trent only will wear sweatpants and flat bill hats? Yes. Yes it does. He also doesn't match his clothes half the time and it's fine. He's not hurting anyone.

I personally do not care how my child wants to express himself or show his creativity if it's not hurting anyone. Do you want super rad kids that have a secure sense of self? Let them make decisions like how to decorate their room or what clothes to wear. I promise it will be fine. It won't ruin all the photos you want to take. It won't ruin your home's aesthetic. It will show them that they have parents who love and support them and create some awesome, independent kids.

Cheers,
